Vocational training in the field of health economics and management

Objective

As the role of health care delivery is changing, there is increasing scope for the development of new jobs that require new skills. The absence of managerial and financial skills in hospitals, primary care practices and ministries, leads to a bottleneck as far as the successful implementation of reforms is concerned. Additional needs in regulatory and industrial economics for health services are required in a sector that matches health policy with industrial policy and/or public policy.

With the above changes in health systems in mind, the aim of this project is threefold. It is firstly to analyse the systems of vocational qualifications and training in the field of health economics in the fifteen member states and provide a state-of-the-art account of courses and degrees offered. Secondly, taking into account that the implementation of healthcare reforms has generated the need for the acquisition of new skills both at the micro and macro levels, the project will identify these needs. Thirdly, it will suggest ways for their implementation in different member states thus promoting co-operation at European level.

Impact
This project will be a stepping stone towards the adoption of future policies in vocational and formal training in the field of health economics and management.
