Co-operation at local level for disadvantaged young people in vocational training and education

Objective

There is a need throughout Europe to prevent and counter unemployment amongst educationally disabled and less well-qualified young people in a meaningful and practical manner. Analyses conducted within the context of labour-market research show that fields of activity and jobs for disadvantaged people are constantly diminishing because of the pace of change in technology and work organisation and that the high numbers of youngsters failing to complete vocational training every year because of learning and performance deficiencies continue to rise. The aim of this project is therefore to set up joint structures and networks of experts involved in the vocational training, education and counselling of disadvantaged young people at local, regional and national level.

These networks are intended to help disadvantaged young people develop their personalities by structuring learning and working processes in a (vocational) pedagogical manner. The aim is to develop innovative approaches for avoiding under-qualification and social isolation and, in this way, to fight youth unemployment in Europe. The acquisition of desired personal, social and specialist skills is embedded in a wide-ranging methodological concept oriented towards integrating vocational, social and special-needs pedagogics into the support programmes. The results of the project will comprise didactic concepts and aids/guidelines developed for educational planners, counsellors and other personnel involved at a practical level with the target group concerned.

Impact
The aim is to counter social isolation affecting less well-qualified and educationally disabled people, in particular, through the setting-up of regional networks. The project will help improve the access of these people to the labour market.
