Specialist language and intercultural training for promoting professional mobility among workers in Europe: German, English, French and Spanish business language

Objective

The European Single Market provides workers with increasing opportunities to practice their professions in companies throughout Europe. The aim of this project is to develop suitable didactic methods to prevent this opportunity failing through linguistic and intercultural difficulties. In view of this, joint quality standards are to be drawn up regarding the running of vocational preparation programmes for employees wishing to work in the commercial business division of a company in a German, English, French or Spanish-speaking country of the EU.

These will be supplemented by didactic materials and joint examination guidelines oriented towards the quality standards developed. It is planned to use modern information and communication technologies to provide details of the qualification possibilities developed as well as for making materials available for ODL. The project will be combined with appropriate qualification training for teaching staff. It is also aimed at companies that want to be sure of guaranteed quality standards when appointing employees from a German, English, French or Spanish-speaking country.

Impact
The combination of linguistic skills and the use of new information and communication technologies represents an indispensable qualification for the European labour market. In addition, the project promotes the dissemination and application of self-learning media.
