Objective
The ornamental rock sector has traditionally shown little interest in the environment, and residues produced by companies have been deposited in open-air dumps, causing serious environmental problems such as water contamination, damage to the landscape and safety problems in muddy areas. Specific training in this area has hitherto been non-existent. The aim of this project is to train personnel in factories and quarries to control the production of residues. More general objectives are to offer the possibility of at least one year of vocational training for all young people who wish to develop new professions in the environmental field.
Once a study of training needs in the recycling of residues has been completed, a course will be designed by the partners. This course will be published on CD-Rom and translated into the partners' languages (Spanish, German and Portuguese).
Impact
It is hoped that the project will contribute to a reduction of the number of people unemployed, provide certification at local level, and reduce environmental contamination.
