Training programme in facilitation of experiential enterprise development for unemployed people

Objective

Problems of high long-term unemployment and geographical isolation act as a barrier to economic development in many European regions. The partners in this pilot project aim to address this issue by developing an Experiential Enterprise Programme (EEP), using open and distance learning and targeted at the unemployed and women returners. This builds on the Experiential Enterprise Programme for Unemployed People developed in the PETRA programme (1992-5) and subsequently piloted with great success in Ireland.

The objective of this project is to make this method of self training in entrepreneurship available to a widely dispersed group of trainers/facilitators, by training a cohort of trainers/facilitators of EEP in each partner region who will, in turn, train further facilitators in their own localities. The bulk of the training is action-based and experiential and will be carried out through an Intranet set up for that purpose, with a limited number of face-to-face workshops. Products resulting from the project will include a dynamic, self-multiplying network of Experiential Enterprise Development (EED) trainers in each partner region and a common multilingual EED website for the ongoing dissemination of results.

Impact
Training will be made available in sparsely populated rural areas, enabling the long-term unemployed and women returners to set up their own enterprises and increase their employability. The project will also raise awareness of Experiential Enterprise programmes and training methods throughout the European Community.
