Objective
In most countries, relatively few women are being trained in areas of technical skills and relatively few women work in technical professions. In spite of some governments' efforts to encourage women to take technical courses and schools' efforts to make the technical courses more appealing to women, the situation has hardly changed.
The aim of this survey and analysis project is to examine the possibilities of improving women's access to technical jobs by analysing some successful strategies of employers in four different EU countries. By starting with good practices within companies and assessing their success in the context of national policies, general conclusions concerning possibilities of transfer will be drawn. Six companies (cases) will be studied, in the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium and Greece in an in-depth manner. Structured face-to-face interviews will be organised with both employers and female employees.
Impact
The published study will contain successful strategies of employers, possibilities for transfer and policy recommendations directed at vocational training centres, governments and employers or employers' organisations.
