Objective
The chances of unemployment are substantially higher for disabled people than they are for similarly qualified non-disabled people. The communication industries offer a promising opportunity to redress this problem. This project seeks to contribute to this by action to improve the employability of disabled people in respect of career management skills, knowledge of the changing labour markets in the target industries and skills specifically addressing the European market.
The project combines research and development in order to ensure that its outcomes are securely founded in terms of an understanding of market needs and of the particular issues confronting disabled people. Its research activity will include a range of quantitative and qualitative methods of gathering information in each of the three participating countries. A CD-Rom will be produced, which will, with paper-based support materials, deliver a training package made up of three modules, each addressing one of the main target areas of the project, career management, the communication industries and labour market, and skills related to the European market. A variety of specialist and general media will be used for dissemination, reflecting the breadth of the project's orientation.
Impact
The project will be of direct use to employers in preparing for the recruitment of disabled people and will provide a model for those working in other fields in Europe.
