European construction qualification

Objective

The single market has now become a reality within the construction industry. The frequency of construction companies' involvement within the European Union is increasing. Managers who are involved need to be aware of the diversity of the construction industry across member states if business, personnel mobility and career potential is to be met. Difficulties of comparability in existing national qualifications, structures and job roles has been recognised.

The partners intend to develop a new competency qualification: the European Construction Qualification (ECQ). This will be achieved by bringing together industry, the academic world and the professionals to develop the award. The format will be common across all EU member states and the syllabus will have a standard form based on both academic and competency values. It is intended that the structure can be adopted in countries not involved in the initial development and pilot schemes. This development will be focused on a free standing unit which is capable of delivery in a number of different ways. It is proposed that a structure of recognition will be developed, to allow each partner state to structure a qualification into their own national education and training framework.

Impact
The project will raise the profile and qualification level of the construction industry across state boundaries and provide a framework for a truly transferable and transparent award not currently available.
