Developing vocational mentors for the arts and cultural industries

Objective

There is little opportunity for artists and arts managers to gain accreditation for mentoring activities. This aspect of their work is a vital part in enthusing and encouraging the sector to develop and grow. This project has been designed to produce a European accredited training framework for vocational mentors working with young people in the arts and cultural industries. It will seek to identify common barriers to successful vocational development for artists and workers. It will design a mobile and flexible training framework for vocational mentors in the arts and cultural sector and construct a framework through a programme of common learning modules, transnational training seminars, open and distance learning, and 'Mentoring the Mentors' through electronic 'teleplacements' on the Internet.

Artists, arts managers and young people will be involved in the testing and development process through a pilot training programme. The project will carry out initial research and comparison relating to training systems in the arts for young people with all the partner countries. The end result will include transferable training modules and open and distance learning materials. Several training conference events will take place.

Impact
The project will impact upon the prospects for young people in a specific occupational sector in Europe where there is a lack of systematic approaches to vocational training.
