On the move - the next steps: expansion and dissemination of the existing database

Objective

Young people - students, employees or the unemployed - are faced with rapid changes in information technology, the labour market and education and training provision. If they are to make use of the opportunities available and understand their future career options, access to appropriate information on jobs, courses and the vocational training system is imperative. Vocational guidance is also essential.

Five countries have joined forces in this project to develop an already existing software programme called "On the move", which is available on floppy disk in two languages. The partners will adapt and translate the programme into their own language. Efforts will also be made to make the programme more interactive and attractive to its young users. The programme will ultimately exist in Danish, Dutch, English, Flemish, Greek and Icelandic. It will be made available as a multimedia educational software programme and on the Internet. A widespread dissemination effort is planned through European National Resource Centres.

Impact
The software is likely to enhance the mobility of young people and broaden their view with regard to career opportunities in the future information society. It will also being an important tool for guidance counsellors.
