Packaging Analytical Monitoring System for Heat Sealed Packages

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - PAM 2 (Packaging Analytical Monitoring System for Heat Sealed Packages)

Reporting period: 2021-04-01 to 2022-03-31

The problem / issue being addressed :

In the primary packaging arena, the heat-sealing integrity is done manually by sampling and there is no data regarding the process that enables to predict and improve process failures.

without data this arena generates world wide, waste of food and contaminating plastic and aluminum laminates used for the primary packaging.

The arena is a blue ocean consisting the food, beverages ,vitamins ,pharmaceuticals, medical devices, cosmetic and consumer goods.

Yoran Imaging enables to transform an analog sample-based inline process of the primary packaging, to become a digital industry 4.0 compliant, that includes 100% inline products inspection and documentation, that perfects the quality assurance.

Why is it important for society? :

This is a game changer in the industry since it enables to reduce waste by alerting on time when there is a degradation trend in the process and enables to compare the performance of new sustainable laminates based on new bio plastic compostable materials.

A digital data based production line enables the assurance that unsealed products will not reach the market and will not endanger the public safety.

The ROI from introducing inline data, comes from preventing defected products to reach the market, reducing waste with real time trend alerts, leading to major increase in productivity, enabling to compare the performance of new sustainable materials and applying

preventive maintenance.

Our secret sauce is that we can reveal the heat-sealing process (the dominating process in the primary packaging arena) by applying inline thermal imaging combined with advanced AI algorithms.

Our patented deep tech is based on over 20 years of intensive experience in thermal imaging, AI and big data.

What are the overall objectives? :

The main focus is data

for that we build the analytical infra structure that enables to integrate the inline data generated by our inline PAM thermal imaging based system , into a big data base that can enable in a press of a button to compare laminates, machines, products , production lines

,team members etc. in order to find root cause for failures, improve production rate, reduce waste , increase mean time between failure and introduce new laminates that are plastic and aluminum free to reduce contamination in our planet.
New installations / pilots:

1. Installing two PAM systems (the Yoran Imaging ,thermal imaging based monitoring system ) into ISHIDA filling and sealing flow pack based packaging lines for the Israeli most popular Bamba snack, in NESTLE Israel

2.Installing two PAM systems into a BOSCH flow pack machine for pouches with coffee powder in Strauss - Elite , the Israeli leading coffee manufacturer

3.Installing one PAM systems into a WOLF flow pack machine for pouches with coffee powder in Strauss - Elite , the Israeli leading coffee manufacturer

4.Installing one PAM systems into a ROVEMA flow pack machine for pouches with coffee powder in Strauss - Elite , the Israeli leading coffee manufacturer

5. installing a PAM system into a TARO MEDISEAL sachet filling and sealing system

6.piloting our PAM system in a Hills pet food (Colgate - Palmolive) in the Czech republic site on a horizontal pouch filling and sealing machine

7.Piloting our PAM system on a ROVEMA filling and packaging line for NESTLE pudding powder . The materials are new recyclable paper based and this is important as part of the initiative to reduce plastic and aluminum waste.

8.Piloting our PAM system on an induction sealing line of NESTLE ketchup in plastic bottles - this activity will be part of the EU zero waste consortium project.

9. development of our analytical service which includes ability to approach our cloud infrastructure , to easily generate statistical process control (SPC) reports and a user friendly dashboard for management process control

9. signing an NDA and entering a pilot discussion with Cargill

10.Patenting in Europe and US two patents, one focused on the big data analysis for trend alerts and preventive maintenance and one focused on preventing blurring effects due to fast moving products in the production lines

11.improving our marcom materials focused on the big data analysis , IoT and friendly SPC and dashboards
1. During the last year we joined the European zero waste consortium and as part of the consortium we entered also the induction sealing arena ( where the sealing liner arrives as part of the plastic cap)

the first pilot is being held on the Nestle Ketchup line in Israel

this is a progress beyond the expected scope of heat sealing monitoring and it opens the pharmaceutical industry beyond the food and cosmetic industries that we were focused so far.

2. We developed with an outsource company a new thermal camera designed for our specifically needs based on European technology . this will enable us to enter new markets that were limited so far when we were based on US technology only

3. We developed new lower cost proto types that will enable us to reduce cost and increase our potential market size
