Objective
In Europe, the systems for university training in cardio-vascular diseases are strong, but practical training for students and continuing training for practitioners is inadequate. Moreover, in the member states, information on technological and therapeutic developments is poorly disseminated outside the major cities.
This pilot project aims to help staff working in cardiology to acquire new skills, to disseminate information at regional level, to develop a European system of reference for skills and, above all, to provide better care for patients.
RETAC plans four major actions. The first will create a European network of cardiologists and people from industry, designed to provide doctors with information and training. The second will be devoted to the design and development of training modules for doctors, nurses and technicians. The third will create a database containing, for example, information on the characteristics of the materials offered by medical material manufacturers. The fourth action will develop cooperation work between the various training centres. This new knowledge will be disseminated through international articles and publications, and through the transnational mobility of students, doctors, teachers and engineers.
Impact
RETAC will improve the quality of cardio-vascular care centres through better, practically-oriented, staff training. The European network will promote work by doctors, paramedics and students within the partner institutions.
