Development of a specific microelectronics application device : from idea to product

Objective

It is European Union policy to encourage the use of microelectronics technologies in companies, especially SMEs. This policy manifests itself in various special microelectronics action programmes such as SMILE, MEPI, GAME II, HOPE II and AIPAC, as well as other programmes such as FUSE programme of the ESPRIT 4th Framework Programme. The main obstacle encountered in convincing SMEs to innovate using microelectronics is their lack of knowledge about the possibilities offered by current technologies and the support available from specialised centres.

The aim of this project is to develop a multimedia support facility designed to illustrate specific microelectronics applications and serve as a guide for managers and technicians in small electronics manufacturing companies that are seeking to introduce into their traditional production process. The facility will also be applicable in an academic context, where it can be used to teach microelectronics students more about real industrial situations.

The multimedia support will be fully interactive and illustrated with practical examples. It will be produced in CD-ROM format, to allow for up-dating of material with regard to the future evolution of microelectronics. It will be produced in English, Italian, Spanish and Greek.

Impact
The project will lead to increased use of microelectronics applications in industry and improve the quality of available training on this subject in Europe.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
