Objective
Because of consumer demand, farmers are increasingly expected to work according to environmentally friendly practices and provide the market with quality products that are free of contaminants. Faced with this market context and new regulations, farmers must adapt their methods. The complex nature of agricultural technologies and agro-chemicals pollution means that high quality training is the best way for farmers to prepare themselves for the necessary changes.
The aim of the project is to design, test and evaluate training modules that will enable farmers to improve their environmental knowledge and take account of environmental considerations in their farming practices. The deliverables of the project include: guidelines and a database for analysing training needs; a training module devoted to the training of trainers (from cooperatives and professional organisations); and a training module devoted to the training of farmers. The training materials will include slides, guidelines, and an evaluation tool.
All the products will be available in each national language (including English) and stored on computer disks so that they can be easily transferred to organisations outside of the project.
Impact
The project will encourage farming enterprises and professional organisations to play an active role in promoting clean agriculture.
