SMEs personnel towards information society opportunities

Objective

Rapid change, the development of new technologies and globalisation over the last twenty years means that companies constantly have to adapt in order to remain competitive. The economic and social well being of many SMEs depends directly on their ability to participate in the development of the information society. The aim of this project is to develop training materials to enable small and medium-sized companies to share the benefits and opportunities of the information society and avoid being left behind in the innovation process.

The partners will undertake the following activities: analysis of the needs of potential users of new information technologies in European SMEs; analysis of the potential obstacles to training; design of a set of new training modules for on-the-job use in European SMEs; design and production of a demonstration software programme for the modules; organisation of a pilot training course; and dissemination of the demonstration software programme to 1500 SMEs and 500 employers' and trade union organisations.

The training modules developed by the project are particularly targeted at SME marketing and communication directors, and can be used on a cross-sectoral basis.

Impact
This project will facilitate access to training in SMEs, and enable them to remain competitive in rapidly changing international markets.
