Objective
This project is concerned with the growing importance of cultural and heritage activities across Europe. European tourism will not be able to survive solely on the sun, sea and sand image for much longer, and, therefore, the added value of culture and heritage is becoming increasing important. Developing local culture, crafts and heritage will : provide a source of employment in rural or underdeveloped areas; contribute to the regeneration of traditional professions; and enhance equal opportunities in employment between men and women. More specifically, this project will respond to the need for a vocational training programme which covers different professions including craftspeople; owners of agro-tourism enterprises, travel agents, local authorities, museum staff, and architects.
The partners will develop a training needs analysis methodology focusing on cultural heritage tourism. They will then develop and test appropriate training modules and curricula. A total of eight different modules will be developed for trainers in each region, on the following subjects : establishing heritage products; agro-tourism and heritage tourism development; marketing skills; small business skills; quality standards; organisation of cultural events and festivals; food and wines; and hospitality standards.
Impact
The training developed by this project will be integrated into the curricula of the participating vocational training institutes in this project and, if possible, into those of other institutions in the respective countries.
