Objective
This pilot project is in response to the sectoral need for training self-employees and/or workers in small companies. It focuses particularly on the protection of their health and safety at work, notably with regard to hazardous chemicals. Training will be developed to enable workers to protect themselves and their surroundings and, more importantly, to educate them on why they should care about their health, and what precautions they should take.
Four training packages will be developed : safety performance review and evaluation system; qualitative and quantitative safety and health objectives; site safety and precaution programme; and easy-to-follow implementation plan. The materials will focus on the more common workplace hazards such as suspended particulate matter, evaporating solvents, gas chemicals and noise.
The end product will be a 40 hour training course. All the information will be included in a well-documented, easily readable, flexible and straightforward manual, that will be initially produced in two languages - English and Greek.
Impact
The project will enhance the social conscience of workers and increase their awareness about safety and the prevention of accidents in the workplace. It will ultimately contribute to workers' well-being and increase their productivity.
