Objective
Wind energy is an appealing source of energy today. It is clean, environmental-friendly and its corresponding projects are simple and cheap to maintain, In addition, schemes can create long term local employment and help underpin local communities. However, SMEs specialising in this field must follow technological advances to remain competitive. This project proposes to develop structured courses and resource material for engineers and technicians to meet the market and training needs of the sector.
The training package will be tested, monitored and disseminated in wind energy applications activated SMEs, in regional/local energy agencies and in training centres. The package will target persons from a wide range of academic backgrounds. Course material will be developed for each group, and cover aspects of wind energy including meteorology, wind turbine technology, wind farm operation and maintenance, and safety issues. The courses will be of two weeks' duration for engineers, and include visits to farms and single turbines. For technicians, the course duration will be one week. Content design will take into account new technological and technical developments in wind energy, and include sections on standards, guidelines, and recommendations for the design and erection of wind turbines.
Impact
The project will develop innovative training programmes, raise levels of qualifications, and promote the development of renewable energy technology.
