Objective
The overall aim of this project is to strengthen the development of knowledge in vocational training areas that focus on and support total quality management (TQM) in service and manufacturing organisations. It also aims to derive normative guidelines for trainers and policy makers, and to provide the basis for forecasting pan-European training needs and adopting alternative training methodologies.
More specifically, the project will establish the extent of training provision that is targeted at supporting TQM, including differences that occur across national boundaries, at different levels in an organisation, and between service and manufacturing organisations. It will then establish the extent to which high technology is used in quality related training, and its acceptance. Evaluations of training effectiveness from a management perspective will also be obtained. In addition, the training needs of TQM trainers will be identified.
The outcomes of this project will be predominantly in the form of reports, journal articles, and conference presentations. A practitioner style report will be produced, as well as 'academic' publications, to disseminate results to both policy makers in organisations and those involved in the design and delivery of training programmes.
Impact
The findings will be of particular benefit to policy makers and trainers with an interest in improving their country's (or organisation's) capacity to promote the dissemination of innovative practice in quality management training.
