Objective
Many firms complain that it is impossible to find suitable young people for vacant jobs and apprenticeships. Moreover, small and medium-sized firms do not have the proper tools to make a suitable choice when seeking young applicants. Today, it is normal for higher-level employees to seek the professional help of appropriate vocational counsellors, but this is too expensive when hiring young people.
The object of the MATCH pilot project is to create a computer-supported instrumentarium. Through this individual job requirement profiles of small and medium-sized firms can be compared with the interests and abilities of young applicants, in order to determine which job best suits which young person.
Approaches under consideration are, for example, the use of standardised interviews, the use of workplace documentation, and the development of requirement profiles for specific firms. Standardised interviews for young applicants, interest profiles, and aptitude tests willcomplete the matching components. It should even be possible for the matching instrumentarium developed to be used indepen-dently by small and medium-sized firms if necessary. This should render the selection process in the firms more objective and eliminate superficial and subjective selection procedures.
Impact
Through its specialist participating partners, the project will make a substantial contribution to improving the labour market for young people and to assisting small and medium-sized firms.
