Objective
Many young people in Europe with severe learning disabilities leave the education system without adequate training and as a result face potential social and economic exclusion. This project aims to strengthen the employability of disadvantaged groups, with an emphasis on the development of vocational training programmes in the horticultural trade for disabled people.
Programme modules will be developed and tested by the partner institutions in cooperation with the relevant trade organisations. Experience, methods and materials will be exchanged within the partnership on a continuing basis. The modules will include skills training in specific areas: landscape gardening, nursery gardening, fruit and vegetable growing, maintenance, flower arrangement and tractor driving - and in general areas: foreign languages, mathematics information technology, first aid, firefighting and hygiene. Accompanying materials will include user guides, manuals, exercises and assessment tests and will be available in English and Danish.
This project will give students the opportunity to acquire knowledge and skills that qualify them for entering the workforce in the horticultural trade. Skills and attainment levels will be tested through theoretical and practical exercises including on-the-job training in private firms and public organisations. Selection procedures will be defined to ensure that special attention is paid to the recruitment of women onto the programme.
Impact
The project will contribute to reducing the social and economic isolation of particular disadvantaged groups.
