Objective
The Spanish national association for the blind (ONCE) has a number of training centres which provide special training in telephony. This project is designed to increase the capacity and quality of this provision, and to better respond to the needs of young visually handicapped people, especially women. The aim is to prepare them for new labour market requirements, in terms of both technical skills, and social and behavioural skills.
In the first stage, the partners will undertake a study of existing telephony training in the Member States involved. The results will be pooled with a view to determining required skill levels and needs. The partners will then design a new training curriculum for visually handicapped telephonists. Attention will be given to the need to transform traditional teaching methods to bring them up to date with new labour market requirements and new technologies. The training curriculum will be produced in each of the partner languages.
Impact
The training developed by this project will be designed to : improve the self-confidence of visually handicapped people; increase their employability; and help them integrate more fully into society.
