Skill harmonisation plan for the refrigeration and air-conditioning sector in the EU

Objective

The refrigeration and air-conditioning sector is blossoming in the European Union. The objective of this pilot project is multi-technological, multi-disciplinary and educational. It aims to create a skill harmonisation programme at a European level for this sector.

This plan will take place in four stages. The first stage will be to study and build a refrigeration unit in each partner establishment, and to install a videoconference system to observe the technical, cultural and linguistic work sessions in real time. The second stage will consist of determining the knowledge and know-how to be validated during the three-year pilot project. This procedure will take into account the specific nature of the educational system and company culture in each partner country. The third stage will be to create a telecommunications network on the Internet for computerised management of the materials, in order to distribute the various liaison systems, and to facilitate its use and long-distance management. The fourth stage will involve organising student exchanges to evaluate and deepen their technical, professional and linguistic knowledge.

A European pamphlet of skills will be offered to the education authorities of the four countries directly concerned and to professional organisations. It will be transferable to the sector of continuing training for any interested training organisations.

Impact
Eventually, thanks to this pilot project, a European plan for the recognition of skills in the refrigeration and air-conditioning sector in the European Union and the CEEC will be created. This project will also improve young peoples' chances of vocational insertion.
