Autonomous living training using technical aids to promote the socio-economic integration of people with special physical needs

Objective

Recent developments in technological aids for home applications for people with special needs [PSN] have not been widely implemented in Europe. Barriers include the narrow parameters of each PSN market and the absence of relevant tools to support PSN training in autonomous living and the use of specific aids. This project aims to provide integrated training, and to support people with various mobility, sensory and light cognitive disabilities to live autonomously by developing and testing appropriate training courses and materials.

Partners will analyse PSN groups' daily living activities and functional needs, and evaluate existing technological aids. These will be classified according to multiple criteria - e.g. activity supported, technological domain, cost, PSN user group, level of learning required, and be integrated into a database of aids to support PSN in domestic activities.

Training courses and methodology will be developed for trainers, and will include support software. This will be designed to guide trainers in the behavioural and technological aspects of teaching PSN for autonomous living, and to provide instructions on how to use PSN aids. Testing and evaluation of methodology and tools will be carried out in partner countries with teacher trainers and PSN groups from different care environments.

Impact
The project will encourage the development of domestic aids and training schemes for self living, and will promote the integration of PSN groups into everyday life.
