Objective
Greek initial vocational training (IVT) policies are designed to help prevent social exclusion through educational integration. However, young persons from low socio-economic backgrounds and with inadequate qualifications frequently remain outside the IVT system and risk exclusion as a result. European initiatives have been taken to help groups at risk, but in the absence of methodology and specialised tools, the results have had limited success. This project seeks to build on the experience gained from these initiatives and, through the development of new methods and tools, to assist disadvantaged young persons, particularly young offenders, to adjust to the educational process of initial vocational training.
Research into the psycho-social and educational background of the target group will provide information for defining learning tools and programme content. The views of practising professionals will be sought on the needs of the target group and on the proposed training methods and strategies. New training tools will be designed for developing educational motivation and learning abilities through personal expression, communication activities, creativity and social interaction.
The programme will offer 200 hours of initial vocational training and 200 hours of applications e.g. psycho-educational activities, workshops, cultural activities. It will also include counselling and vocational guidance modules. Project evaluation will focus on the development of participants' learning ability, degree of preparation to integrate initial vocational training and work, the overall effectiveness of initial vocational training, and the psycho-social benefit to participants.
Impact
The project will create methods and tools for developing learner motivation and reducing obstacles to integrating the educational process, and will contribute to preventing social exclusion.
