Training banking sector worker representatives to improve the quality of collective contractual agreements

Objective

The emergence of the information society, European integration and globalisation have triggered a great demand for training measures in most sectors. For instance, the introduction of the Euro will have a direct impact on the banking sector. Working methods and patterns will have to be changed, some banking services will become obsolete, and new services will be called for. Current training systems in the banking sector will therefore have to be adjusted to the needs brought about by these developments.

The aim of this project is to promote a constructive social dialogue on the development of new training measures required to deal with the introduction of the Euro and virtual banking. The partners will design and develop methods that will enable banking sector worker representatives to take joint decisions with employers on the content and structure of future training programmes.

Teaching methods, content and modules will be developed and evaluated by a focus group comprising a representative from the central management of each partner. A course for trainers will also be produced. Support material will be in the form of CD-ROMS, manuals and interactive material for use on the web.

Impact
The project will promote the participation of banking sector worker representatives in the development of company-based training systems. It will also strengthen the social dialogue in this sector with a view to achieving collective agreements on training. This will ultimately safeguard jobs.
