Language Training for Industrial Sectors

Objective

This project is concerned with language training for specialised technical staff working in industrial companies in the construction, mechanical engineering and electronics sectors. There is an increasing need for such companies to work transnationally. Language training is required to enable technical staff to read and understand foreign technical documentation and manuals, and interact with technicians from other European countries.

The principal goal of this project is to develop a multilingual language learning package for technical personnel working in the industrial and design areas. In a first phase, the partners will analyse language learning requirements in various technological sectors, in close association with the companies involved. They will then design specific language courses in English, French, German and Italian. The courses will be developed in multimedia format, and designed for open and distance learning use. Assessment and accreditation tools will also be produced. The whole package will be piloted with a representative sample of technical staff from construction, mechanical engineering and electronics SMEs.

Impact
This project will improve the qualification levels of technical personnel, promote the economic development of enterprises and encourage European trade.
