Objective
Dual vocational training arrangements facilitate the allocation of labour in small, medium-sized and large enterprises, and promote the acquisition of occupational skill for large parts of the (potential) labour force. In both of these areas, Europe continues to have problems. Despite mass unemployment, enterprises encounter difficulties in recruiting personnel. At the same time, substantial parts of the labour force are practically excluded from vocational training. Dual vocational training systems need to be developed in order to improve the functioning of labour markets.
The partners will analyse information on dual training systems in Finland, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom. This will enable them to identify the determinants of success at national, sectoral and local (school, enterprise) level, before arriving at concrete policy recommendations relating to the continuous improvement of the effectiveness of European dual training systems.
The project will produce intermediate and final country reports, and analyse the relationship between institutional factors and performance at the macro, meso and micro level. A final summary report will include an analysis of the results across six countries, two different sectors and three different levels of training.
Impact
This project will lead to new insights into the institutional factors that determine the rate of success of dual vocational training systems.
