Objective
Build a 8.52MW hybrid renewable energy project to demonstrate supplying the electricity requirements of an Irish local authority by taking advantage of electricity market liberalisation. Demonstrate the innovative aspects of new variable speed 850kW wind turbines with increased efficiency, lower impact on the electricity network and lower costs; a 1MW hydro Power plant combined to water supply upgrading; a 250kW hydro power plant linked to auxiliary water supply and a 470kW landfill gas power plant with non-catalytic oxidation to reduce emissions. Demonstrate an innovative control system which optimises electricity production in order to maximise return. Avoid 25,238 tonnes of CO2 annually by displacing 8,318 tonnes of crude oil.
