COMPUTER AIDED POST IN EUROPE IN THE YEAR 2000

Objective

The CAPE 2000 project will pioneer multimedia and electronic data interchange (EDI) technologies for improved and new European postal and ancillary services. Service requirements in ten EU countries will be identified, with due regard to international mail quality of service and also to the needs of rural and isolated communities. The project will demonstrate, subject to standardisation, inter-operability between postal and airline systems across national borders with a view to later extension to all types of transporters. It will also study the future introduction throughout Europe of large-scale public kiosk-based postal services.
