North European cns/atm application project

Objective

The objectives of NEAP are to specify, develop, test and evaluate examples of airborne and ground based user applications within the following application areas:

o Enhanced surveillance for Air Traffic Control (ATC)
o Pilot situation awareness
o GNSS precision navigation capability for all phases of flight, i.e. surface movement, departure, en route, and approach and landing.

The detailed assessment and selection of suitable user applications and functions to be tested and evaluated within these application areas, as well as the detailed testing and evaluation procedures to be applied, will be performed in the projects initial work packages and shall be agreed with the EC. Professional pilots and air traffic control specialists will be closely involved in these tasks.

NEAP should be viewed as an "application" extension of the NEAN project (ref SW19S1464) and will utilise the ground and airborne infrastructure currently being implemented in that project. The NEAN ground infrastructure encompasses a major part of the airspace of Sweden, Denmark and Germany and includes some 15 airports and at least one heliport.

The ground stations will broadcast GNSS augmentation data to support precision satellite based navigation and will receive position report (ADS) data from airborne and ground users for presentation in ATC centres and control towers. STDMA transponders carried by the mobile users will allow two way datalink communications with the ground stations as well as with other mobile users for exchange of position information to support situation awareness. User equipment will include cockpit displays showing the position of other equipped users. These and other types of user equipment will be developed or modified within the project as required by the particular application supported.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
