TRACEABILITY OF THE EVOLUTION OF COMMUNICATION, NAVIGATION, SURVEILLANCE (CNS) REQUIREMENTS VERSUS OPERATIONAL CONCEPTS

Objective

The goal of the TRAFFIC project is to produce a set of preliminary requirements (operational and functional) for Communication, Navigation, Surveillance (CNS) subsystems, deriving from ATM concept definition and consolidation activities.
TRAFFIC project proposes to reach this objective by manage in a consistent way the evolution of the operational needs associated to the European Air Traffic Management System (EATMS) and their consequences on the services which will be offered by the different subsystems including CNS.

The objectives of this project are the following :

- to provide requirements for CNS subsystems, clearly linked with previous ATM system definition activities, a limited set of CNS subsystem will be addressed (e.g. A/G and A/A datalink, GNSS, ADS) in the produced requirements;

- to provide a consistent mapping between the most recent operational concepts envisaged for EATMS and the requirements for the future CNS subsystems (and for the upgrading of existing CNS subsystems);

- to provide this work in an appropriate template based on synthetic and easy-to-use format;
- to demonstrate the consistency of the provided results with the various paths for changes towards EATMS.

The CNS will be analysed from the in-flight phases (en-route and approach) and will be extended to the gate-to-gate concept for the selected CNS. This means that the covered CNS domain will not include items such as planning activities (ATFM, airport sequencing managers, etc.) or data processing systems dedicated to ground systems (ASM, AIS, ATFM, ATC).

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
