Objective
The objectives of this Concerted Action are to coordinate the modernization of national data banks for fisheries research in order to enable an increased exchange of research data, and to make a more efficient use of national research efforts.
To this end the coordinator will organize two meetings of 4 days at RIVO-DLO in IJmuiden, for experts from various fisheries institutes around the North Sea and from ICES.
These experts will:
a) review the existing database systems in the various institutes;
b) review existing plans for modemization of database systems in their institutes;
c) review new developments in data base methodology;
d) consider possibilities for coordination of national programmes for modernization of database systems, leading to better coordination in data storage, and the enhancement of data exchange and joint data analysis;
e) consider possibilities for merging national data (biological and economic) into a regional data centre, where they could be accessed both by international working groups and managers.
