EUROPEAN NETWORK FOR THE EVALUATION OF THE GENETIC RESOURCES OF BEECH FOR APPROPRIATE USE IN SUSTAINABLE FORESTRY MANAGEMENT

Objective



The proposal aim is to investigate the genetic resources of beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) which is a species of high silvicultural value. In order to have the genetic variation of ecological as well as economic characteristics the establishment of a network of field trials with beech provenances covering the whole area of distribution are envisaged throughout Europe. The Concerted Action will assure the establishment of harmonised experiments and harmonised data collection. The trials are conducted as national research.
