EUROPEAN BANK OF COMPUTER PROGRAMS IN BIOTECHNOLOGY

Objective

The general aim is to develop the use of computers in biotechnological research and training by means of a European Bank of Computer Program in Biotechnology (EBCB). The EBCB is in the process of collecting computer programs with direct value as research tools, for simulation, data acquisition, data handling and for computer assisted learning. Information on the available software is available via an online software catalogue which an electronic bulletin board provides the means of easy and fast communication between researchers (to date a membership of 120). The software catalogue came online in April 1991. Initially the majority of the items came from commercially available software however the number of public domain programmes now available through EBCB has risen to over 1000. A hardcopy form of the catalogue is now being developed.
