Registry of sequenced plant genes

Objective

1. OBJECTIVES:
In 1991 the International Society_of Plant Molecular Biology (ISPMB), recognising that the sequencing of Arabidopsis, rice, wheat and maize genomes and cDNAs would lead to an explosion in the number of known genes, established the Commission of Plant Gene Nomenclature (CPGN), with the object of developing a common nomenclature for sequenced plant genes.
This proposal requests funding to establish a European office of the CPGN at the John Innes Centre (JIC, Norwich) under the direction of Dr. Lonsdale (Vice-Chair, CPGN).
The office will operate, support and develop the 'Plant Gene Nomenclature' database (MENDEL) at the JIC.
