Objective
Plant breeders need to protect their cultivars and ensure the novelty of new varieties. Traditional verification methods can be problematic. New Pcr Technology can produce genetic fingerprints rapidly and cost effectively allowing the development of genetic fingerprint data banks for ornamental crops. Research is needed to determine the most appropriate Pcr Technology for ornamental crops, especially roses which would be a good model for other crops. The means of compiling the rose fingerprint information into a PAN European data bank (E.U.R.O. Bank) and extending this to other ornamental crops must be investigated. The proposed finger print bank would be of great assistance to European SME's reducing the lead time to market for new cultivars and significantly reducing the cost involved.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
