BIOMASS COMBUSTION WITH EXTERNAL FLUID BED COMBUSTOR

Objective

The arrangement of a large quantity of biomass of different origins, and in diverse, variable proportions which today generates environmental problems and disposal costs.
To develop a new management approach to this biomass by means of a co-combustion system with natural gas which leads to the production of electric energy to introduce into the national grid.
Minimize emission of contamination and reduce the problems of maintenance (foling and slegging) , obtaining at the same time the maximum global productivity of the system.
To safeguard the environmental problems of a catchment basin, which represents about half the surface of the province of Forli-Cesena, and flows right into the Adriatic Sea.
Increase the operative margins of the manufacturers who operate in this basin through the use of advanced technology which respects the environment.

The biomass which are joined to the system will be sub-divided by typology and directed to the combustor feeding zone by means of a control system supervised by the central unit which co-ordinates the whole process with particular attention paid to the temperatures and the cleaning system of the gases.
The fluidzed bed combustion system includes all the equipment necessary to accept, distribute and mix air, fuel and additives in a high temperature environment. The cleaning system of the bed permits continuous operation of the combustion process, while inert material can be removed contemporarily. This system reduces the costs associated with downtime, labour, and repair of the bed material.
After the combustor there is a boiler, which has been designed and constructed taking into account that for this particular type of application (which provides for the use in co-combustion of natural gas made up of a mixture of variable biomass with low melting point ashes which can be, therefore, easily deposited onto the surface of the boiler. The constructive project takes this into account with the adoption of crossing speeds, controlled by the computer which governs the process.
with the quality of the gas in mind, a cleaning system for the fuel gas has been studied and experimented on a small scale; this foresees a cone filter at the exit of the economizer of the boiler made up of various sections, recycling of the clean air, tail fan and a 30 m chimney for its admission into the atmosphere. The high pressure steam 65 bar and 470C, a condensation turbine for the production of electrical energy 22 MWc to introduce into the national grid will be used.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
