THERMAL ENERGY FROM NONMETALLIC CAR SHREDDER WASTE

Objective

The project demonstrates the continuous production of superheated steam by a complete combustion of nonmetallic car shredding waste, obtained in a suitable granulometry.

The plant is dimensioned for a continuous nominal capacity of 20 Gcal/h. It uses a particular system for feeding and moving the combustible waste, constituted by a mechanical grate combined with a rotary kiln. Secondary air is injected through orientable nozzles, which allow the injection of air either perpendicular or tangential to the flue gas flow.
The plant data can be summarized as follows:
- steam output nominally 33 tonnes/h
- steam pressure 44 kg/cm2
- superheat temperature 430 deg. C
- feedwater temperature 146 deg. C
- flue gas outlet temperature 200 deg. C
The flue gas is treated by means of a dry lime scrubbing system, consisting of a contact reactor, a cyclone for separating and recycling the reactants and an electrostatic precipitator. However, a wet scrubber will be built in case the results of dry scrubbing are unsatisfactory.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
