Objective
- Project objective : The total recovery of spent lubricant oils in the production of recycling oil with the subsequent energy saving by substituting crude oil and environmental protection through the disposal of the greatest part of this heavily polluant by-product.
- Innovative aspect of the project : The completion and development of a vacuum distillation unit recycling spent lubricant oils (=23272 tn/year) with a propane extraction process so as to recover additionally 5.620 tn/year of BRIGHT STOCK (high viscosity base oils) and to increase the total efficiency (new total efficiency more than 80%).
- Energy Savings : the total savings of the project is at least 5000 TOE/year.
During the monitoring period excellent operation results were recorded with every component of the installation performing without any problems. The results of the installation completely fulfilled our expected requirements and initial forecasts concerning the capacity of unit (feed 700-7200 tn/year and its efficiency (=80% 5600-5750 tn/year B.S.)
- Innovative technology
The project concerns the revamping of a vacuum distillation unit currently processing 23.272 t/y of spent lubricant oils and reducing 7.028 t/y of heavily polluting residue mainly consisting of highly claimed hydrocarbons. Through the revamping a propane extraction (select-programme) process recovers 5623 t/y of bright stock, thus reducing the residue of the process to 1,406 t/y only.
- Economic aspects of the technology : The cost of recovering bright stock with the applied technology is lower than using alternative technologies (f.e. to complete the distillation process with an additional wiped thin film evaporator working as scrubber).
