Serologic Tuberculosis

Objective

Based on an existing serological test for the diagnosis of active tuberculosis, a group of European distributors and producers of medical diagnostics wants to improve and expand the product range with special diagnostics for: tuberculosis therapy monitoring, early disease detection, population screening, and patient screening. The current product is an IgA enzyme immuno assay, that performs better than competing serologic tests on the market, is based on a patent application owned by the producers, and showed unexpected potential for therapy monitoring and the diagnosis of early disease. Based on immunoblot banding patterns, the methodology has the potential for the development of new diagnostic applications . The research project will include the separation and characterization of defined antigenic mycobacterial fractions, the functional characterization of 'titrated' antigenic fractions with serum panels, and the performance of these fractions in various test formats. To submit a co-operative research project, the proposers want to broaden their research capacity by finding co-operation with basic research and medical RTD performers, dedicated to mycobacterial studies. As a preliminary study, the proposers also want to perform a controlled field trial, to prove the diagnostic potential and thus the feasibility of the project.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
