Objective
Severely disabled people have the right of communication and living their lifes as they choose. For this purpose several tools like wheelchair mountable robot arm Manus are available. By making these rights accesible to disabled people new techhnologies such as telesupporting, telemaintaining and telelearning are necessary. Manus can perform hand and arm functions. However, more funtionality than currently availabe is required while the current technical configuration of Manus has reched the limits of usability. In the research project new technologies in the fields of electronics, mechanics and software have to be added to Manus, such that the funtionality can be increased. In this way Manus should become more intelligent. The research project will be prepared in cooperation between Exact Dynamics andOxIM. Boths SME companies are active in the field of rehabilitation robotics./ Third parties have to be found, especially partners which can adapt/.attach Manus to wheelchairs and execute several special research tasks. The project will result in technology which can give an increased independence to severely disabled people by means of Manus and other rehabilitation robots. An additional advantage is that markets can be extended, and cost can be decreased.
