A kinesthetically controlled robotic system for diagnostic purposes in orthopaedics

Objective

The Scientific and Technical Objectives of this research proposal concern the development of a qt very new diagnostic methodology based on a computer controlled robotic device designed to meet paedic requirements for an advanced examination and treatment of injuries. The research is required to conduct both medical and technical assessment of the application of ad robot control concepts based on kinesthetic sensing in human orthopaedics diagnostics. Particularly rest is focused on the low extremity joints (ankle, knee and hip) where injuries are frequent and in difficult differential diagnosis. Development of new technologies to assist early diagnostics and treatment of joint injuries, thereby ving the medical outcomes, has a large common economic and social interest.
