Objective
Objectives:
- To estimate prevalence and incidence of cancer by age, sex, and site in European countries.
-To provide time trend analysis and short-term and middle-term projections of the same quantities.
-To link prevalence estimated with clinical data in order to estimate health needs due to therapy and follow-up of cancer patients.
This project is aimed to estimate prevalence of cancer in European countries. The estimated number of prevalent cases will be disentangles by age, sex, and time since diagnosis, so allowing linkage with clinical data on health needs due to therapy and follow-up of cancer patients. Making use of short-term projection techniques, the results will be referred to the year 1999.Prevalence trends and middle-term projections will be considered as well. The project is mainly based on existing data: official mortality data, incidence data collected by cancer registries, EUROCARE database on cancer patients survival. The main effort of the project consists in developing, testing, and applying, on a wide variety of different countries, a common methodology on morbidity estimation. Heavy involvement of international research group, with a sound knowledge of local features of disease epdiemiology, is essential to reach the project's goals.01 01
