The aim of this project is :
- to find methods of synthesizing AIN powders with flexible controlled properties according to the end uses of the material (mechanical and electrical)
- to study the effect of powder characteristics on shaping and densification behaviour
- to establish correlations between powder characteristics and AIN ceramic materials, which are the key to industrial application development.
The synthesis of high quality AIN by CVR is difficult because of hydrolysis of AlCl3. It may be possible to prevent Cl contamination, but this synthesis approach will still be difficult. On the other hand, carbonitridation of alumina is promising but at the moment only on a small scale.
A complete process of tape casting and sintering was successfully developed to produce substrates for electronic applications.
