Objective
The main goal of the project is the development of an economic production technique for near net-shape magnets from mechanically alloyed Nd-Fe-B powders. Besides the manufacture of polymer bonded isotropic magnets, hot pressed isotropic magnets and anisotropic magnets prepared by hot deformation processes will be examined.
The main goal of the project is the development of an economic production technique for near net shape magnets from mechanically alloyed neodymium iron boron alloy powders. Besides the manufacture of polymer bonded isotropic magnets, hot pressed isotropic magnets and anisotropic magnets prepared by hot deformation processes will be examined. The essential tasks are the development of an economic production route of powders for mechanical alloying, the mechanical alloying of neodymium iron boron and reaction heat treatment; the manufacture of polymer bonded magnets, the investigation of different compaction techniques for the production of isotropic or anisotropic neodymium iron boron magnets, respectively, the characterisation of the physical and magnetic properties, the corrosion and handling tests of magnets and magnet systems and the investigation of pinning type magnets.
Appropriate powders for mechanical alloying of neodymium iron boron have been produced in 5 kg batches. In pilot production facilities the mechanical alloying of such powders has been performed. The optimisation of the processing parameters and of the reaction heat treatment are under investigation. In laboratory conditions polymer bonded magnets with a remnant polarisation of 0.67 T and a coercivity of 13.1 kA/cm were prepared by mechanical alloying from the newly developed powders. By hot pressing combined with a hot deformation process anisotropic magnets with a remnant polarisation of 1.33 T and an energy density of 330 kJ m{-3} have been achieved.
The essential task are :
-development of an economic production route of powders for mechanical alloying
- mechanical alloying of Nd-Fe-B and reaction heat treatment
- manufacture of polymer bonded magnets
- investigation of different compaction techniques for the production of isotropic or anisotropic Nd-Fe-B-magnets, respectively
- characterization of the physical and magnetic properties
- corrosion and handling tests of magnets and magnet-systems
- investigation of pinning type magnets
