Objective
The aim of the project is to develop specifications for the feature-based modeller in the fields of aerospace sheet metal and milled part.
A new set of methodology specifications allows problems to be solved in the areas of integrated design activity with general company management, integrating and durability of company know how, and reducing extra work needed to develop manufacturing data from design data. The cornerstone is a 3-dimensional feature based modeller which will enable the harnessing of the skills and know how of designers; the reduction of time spent going backwards and forwards between design and manufacturing; and the reduction of lead times for the release of new versions of aerospace products.
The main results consisted of: descriptions of new methodologies; specifications for feature based system architecture and information structure; a common glossary; a formal description of processing in sheet metal and milled parts working; a feature catalogue; some software developments.
The results will be exploited by implementation of feature based applications and study of new analysis and development methodologies and technologies.
Current computerised design methods have shown their limit, especially in high technology sectors such as the aerospace industry. Areas in which substantial developments need to be made are :
-Integration of design activity with general company management.
-Integration and durability of company know-how.
-Reduction of extra work needed to develop manufacturing data from design data.
The new set of methodologies specifications to be established will allow these problems to be solved; the cornerstone will be 3-D feature-based modeller which will enable us to : harness the skills and know-how of designers; reduce the time spent going backwards and forwards between design and manufacturing; reduce lead times for the release of new versions of aerospace products.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
