RESEARCH ON AUTOMATIC HANDLING TECHNIQUES FOR NON-RIGID MATERIALS BASED ON THEIR PROPERTIES

Exploitable results

The research has generated knowledge for use by system engineers to develop machines for handling a wide range of non-rigid materials such as pastas, meats and textiles. The work has led to new schemes for sensing material behaviour for manipulation and gripping simulation of handling strategies integrity machine kinematics and material deformation. In addition a knowledge base has been produced that can be used to assist systemes engineers to relate to material properties to the required automated system components and techniques. The scope however, has been limited to elastic sheets and lastic dough materials. The knowledge base also has the ability to automatically select handling strategies based on the definition of tasks and material behaviour for given system configurations,
