Objective
The aim, to substitute PVC-foils by SUPREMAT , could be reached only partially. For some areas of Application to stage of development of SUPREMAT-foils is sufficient, for other not. In some cases there are limits to the application of SUPREMAT-foils. SUPREMAT is not a substitute for PVC if deep drawable properties a 3-D deformation is not possible.
Also SUPREMAT is not a substitute for PVC if the following properties are required.
Elasticity and deep drawing properties
High tensile strength
High tear strength
High plasticity
Weldability
For other applications, e.g. decorative coating of furniture boards, wrapping of profiles and pieces of furniture, the SUPREMAT-foil may be used as a substitute of PVC-foils.
In this application area the following properties are required:
Flexibility
Abrasive resistance and scratch resistance
Thermal stability
UV-stability
Printability
Bondage probates and bonding strength
Embossing properties
Weather resistance
Design of structured surfaces
For these purposes the development of SUPREMAT has been successful because it fulfils the required product properties.
R S The development will be undertaken by 5 European SMEs situated in Germany, France and Italy.
Production, manufacturing and disposal of PVC constitute a wear factor on resources and is pollutive because:
- a high volume of non regrowing resources is required
- a high volume of energy is required
- toxic emissions emerge which cannot be eliminated or only at enormous expense
- they demand toxic waste dumps.
The project SUPREMAT will develop new procedures with which the previous PVC foils will be substituted, the effects being:
- re-growing resources
- energy saving
- non-polluting.
The basic material will be similar to paper, with its consistence, structure, surface, etc, modified by various techniques, to come close to the previous material in its utilization and easy waste disposal.
