ECONOMIC AND RELIABLE TURBINE BLADING BY LOW COST SINGLE CRYSTAL ALLOY, CASTING PROCESS AND NON DESTRUCTIVE TESTING

CORDIS provides links to public deliverables and publications of HORIZON projects.

Links to deliverables and publications from FP7 projects, as well as links to some specific result types such as dataset and software, are dynamically retrieved from OpenAIRE .

Exploitable results

The project concerned improving the performance of the single crystal material by the careful balancing of conventional nickel-base alloy chemistry (rather than following the conventional method of adding extremely expensive elements like Re). This alloy is MC2. Production costs were lowered by using conventional vacuum casting furnaces available even in smaller investment foundries and by reducing cycle times. Process parameters are controlled by mould design rather than by heating/cooling devices. Quality assurance costs for detecting orientation and grain structure defects are lowered by simultaneously increasing the reliability of quality control test results. The main applications of theses results are related to the turbine blades manufacturers for aero and energy power plants, as well as mineralogy, semi-conductors, opto-electronic, etc.
